Safety
First, Second and ALWAYS!
There is one thing we are stone cold serious about
at Smirkus : Safety!
In her book "How
to Keep Your Children Safe: A Guide to Parents,"
author and former camp parent, Yvonne M. Vissing,
uses Smirkus Camp as
an example of a camp which makes sure children
are safe.
Rest assured. Safety is a number one issue
for us at Smirkus and for parents who are shopping
for summer camps for their children. But
don't take our word for it. The first sentence
in Vissing's quote below sums it up:
"The Circus Smirkus Vermont camp is a model
of high-quality care for kids."

"The Circus Smirkus Vermont camp is a
model of high-quality care for kids. It pays close
attention to its programs,
staff, diet,
facilities, and
management of day-to-day
activities.
Circus Smirkus gives kids a chance to run away
and join the circus with their parent's blessings.
Since 1987, they have provided a format for youths
and adults to collaborate in life-enhancing adventures
through the circus arts.
The camp strives to help children and teens to
achieve personal excellence. Being a circus performer
requires self-control and personal strength, and
children who attend camp leave it stronger physically,
emotionally, and socially. Smirkus teaches children
that hard work, self-discipline, and demanding
performance can benefit them at camp and in their
everyday lives. Its is run by directors
and set of counselors
who have been campers there themselves, and technical
instruction is provided by
professional circus coaches and performers who
come from multicultural backgrounds. Children
from all over the world are given the opportunity
to immerse themselves in artistic productions
by putting together circus performances.
Dreams come true at this delightful summer camp,
but this outcome requires intense administration
and management, supervision, anticipation of potential
problems, and the establishment of positive prevention
practices."
