Top 10 Reasons to Run Away to Smirkus Camp:
1. A Tradition of Circus
Excellence
Smirkus Camp is run by the same folks behind
Vermont’s 23-year-old
award-winning international youth circus.
The camp was founded in 1990 so that kids of all
ages and abilities could experience the dream
of running away and joining the circus. In 20
years, Smirkus Camp has helped thousands
of dreams come true. Many have joined the ranks
of our own Circus
Smirkus Big Top Tour, Cirque Du Soleil, Ringling
Brothers, SeaWorld, and the Midnight Circus of
Chicago, just to name a few.

2.
Learn the Ropes from the Pro’s
Our experienced, fun-loving directors, coaches
and counselors have what it takes to fill your
summer with high adventure and low comedy. Co-Directors
Megan Rose and Jessica
Labun have a combined 36 years
at Smirkus Camp. They’ve been in the ring
at every level: as camper, counselor-in-training,
counselor, coach, program director, head coach,
head counselor, assistant director and Director.
Our team of coaches represent some of the most
talented professionals in the industry and are
trained to work with children and adults, amateurs
and professionals.

3.
Real Skills, Serious Fun
Learn the Science of Falling Down
on purpose. Practice the Ancient Art of Pie-in-the-Face.
Go tumbling, ride
unicycles, walk on a wire. We'll even show
you the best way to hang upside down and throw
things (that is, fly from a trapeze and juggle)!
Each camp session is one or two fun-filled weeks
of acrobatics, juggling, clowning, trapeze, perch,
tightwire, Spanish web, unicycling, stiltwalking
and more! No experience necessary, just a sincere
desire to learn about circus and have lots of
serious fun!

4. Every Kid is
a Star
With
a camp of 68 kids and
a 1:3
staff to camper ratio,
we are big enough to
make the magic and
small enough for every
kid to steal the show.

5.
Success is Guaranteed
Each camper masters new skills
and tricks at her/his own level. There is
no competition with others in the circus –
only cooperation and helping hands to do your
personal best. Our philosophy: Compete
with yourself and cooperate with others.

6.
Safety First, Second and ALWAYS
There is one thing we are stone cold serious about:
Safety! In addition to our professional
coaches, we employ an experienced rigging leader
who performs regular equipment checks to ensure
the highest safety levels day after day after
day. There’s more than enough in place to
catch the mishaps: safety belts on cables for
aerial practice; mats and knee pads; spotters;
supervised practice; and a check-off system that
lets coaches track students' progress.

7.
It’s a Circus
Camp!
Smirkus Camp combines
the excitement of circus
with the fun and friendship
of camp. It’s
not one or the other—it’s
both. Most circus
camps are day camps,
and most residential
camps often just include circus
arts as part of
a large program. Smirkus
Camp offers a unique
experience, combining
world-class circus
arts training with
professional-grade
circus equipment
in a residential
camp setting. Now
that’s something
to write home about!

8.
Vermont Makes it Magical
Picture this: bright multicolored professional
circus tents crafted by traditional Italian tent
makers. A quaint Vermont village in the heart
of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. In the foreground
are the fine facilities of Lyndon
Institute, a boarding and day school for grades
9-12 in scenic Lyndon Center, Vermont. The setting
and accommodations create the ambience for a truly
magical experience!

9.
Everyone’s
Welcome in Our
Big Top!
Our
tent is open to a wide
diversity of abilities
and we make extra special
effort to accommodate
special needs, medical
conditions and diet
accomodations. Everyone
takes the stage inside
the Smirkus Big-Top!

10.
Kids AND Parents

They say it’s
a dream come true!
Kids get to run away
to a camp that's a
real combination of
training, discipline
and downright fun.
